# Linear

> Answer @mentions in Linear issue comments

Linear lets the assistant reply when someone @mentions it in an issue comment. A support lead can ask the assistant, inside the issue, for the next step, a summary, or a draft reply, and the answer stays on that issue.

## When to use it

Use it when the work already lives in Linear: bug triage, customer issues, or an internal queue. The assistant joins the comment thread. It does not replace the Linear inbox or create issues on its own.

## What the assistant hears

The assistant receives comments on the webhook you subscribe. In a product setup that is issue comments. Mention the bot handle you saved so the reply is aimed at the assistant. Other Linear events that you do not subscribe are ignored.

## Where the keys come from

The linked provider guide shows the screens for these clicks. Follow the clicks below together with those pictures.

Sign in at [linear.app](https://linear.app). A personal API key is created under **Settings → Account → Security & access**. It starts with `lin_api_` and is shown once. A workspace admin can limit who may create keys under **Settings → Administration → API**. The webhook signing secret is created with the webhook and starts with `lin_wh_`. Official guides, with the screens for these menus: [API and webhooks](https://linear.app/docs/api-and-webhooks) and [Webhooks](https://linear.app/developers/webhooks).

## Create it at the provider

1. Open Linear and go to **Settings → Account → Security & access**.
2. Create a personal API key, name it, and copy it immediately.
3. As a workspace admin, open **Settings → Administration → API → New webhook**.
4. Subscribe to **Comment**. You can put a temporary HTTPS address in the URL; Linear lets you change the URL later.
5. Open the webhook and copy the signing secret.

## Connect it in Famulor

Your plan includes this channel. Open **Settings → Channels**, choose the card, name the connection, pick an assistant and save. The shared conversation settings — response delay (default 5 seconds) and inactivity timeout (default 30 minutes) — are described on the [messaging channels](https://docs.famulor.io/channels/messaging.md) page.

On the **Linear** card paste **Linear API key** and **Webhook signing secret**. **Bot @handle / display name** is optional; use the handle people will type.

After saving, open the connection menu and choose **Copy webhook URL**. Paste that exact address into the provider. A verified custom domain is already part of the address Famulor shows.

## Point the provider at Famulor

1. Copy the Famulor webhook URL from the connection menu.
2. Edit the Linear webhook and replace the URL with that address.
3. Save the webhook. A new comment that @mentions the assistant appears in History.

## History

Open [History](https://docs.famulor.io/monitoring/history.md) and filter by **Linear**. The thread, the assistant reply and any analysis appear there. You can pause the assistant and answer manually.

## API, MCP and command line

The same connection can be created with the public API, the MCP tool `create_messaging_connector`, or the command line. Replace the placeholders with your own values.

```bash theme={null}
famulor create-messaging-connector --platform linear --name "Support" \
  --assistant-id ASSISTANT_UUID --api-key lin_api_… --webhook-secret lin_wh_… --bot-username famulor-bot
```
