# Mattermost

> Answer a Mattermost public channel with a bot account

Mattermost lets the assistant answer a public channel on your own server or Mattermost Cloud. A team posts in town square, the assistant replies in that channel, and the thread is kept in History.

## When to use it

Use it for an internal help channel or an ops room that already runs on Mattermost. Outgoing webhooks fire in public channels. A direct message or a private channel does not send this webhook.

## What the assistant hears

The assistant hears posts that match the outgoing webhook: a chosen public channel, one or more trigger words, or both. The bot account posts the reply. Invite the bot to that channel.

## Where the keys come from

The linked provider guide shows the screens for these clicks. Follow the clicks below together with those pictures.

Two values are required. The bot access token is created under **Integrations → Bot Accounts** and shown once. The outgoing webhook token is the **Token** on the webhook page, not a separate signing secret. Official screens: [Bot accounts](https://docs.mattermost.com/developers/integrate/reference/bot-accounts) and [Outgoing webhooks](https://docs.mattermost.com/developers/integrate/webhooks/outgoing).

## Create it at the provider

1. In **System Console → Integrations → Bot Accounts**, turn on **Enable Bot Account Creation**. Self-hosted servers leave this off until an admin enables it.
2. Open the product menu → **Integrations → Bot Accounts → Add Bot Account**. Copy the token immediately.
3. Invite the bot to the public channel.
4. In **System Console → Integrations → Integration Management**, allow outgoing webhooks.
5. Product menu → **Integrations → Outgoing Webhook → Add Outgoing Webhook**.
6. Pick the public channel, optional trigger words, and JSON or form content type. The callback URL can be changed after you save.
7. Copy the **Token** on the confirmation page.

## Connect it in Famulor

Your plan includes this channel. Open **Settings → Channels**, choose the card, name the connection, pick an assistant and save. The shared conversation settings — response delay (default 5 seconds) and inactivity timeout (default 30 minutes) — are described on the [messaging channels](https://docs.famulor.io/channels/messaging.md) page.

On the **Mattermost** card paste the public **Mattermost server URL** (HTTPS), the **Bot access token**, and the webhook **Token** into **Outgoing webhook token**. **Bot username** is optional.

After saving, open the connection menu and choose **Copy webhook URL**. Paste that exact address into the provider. A verified custom domain is already part of the address Famulor shows.

## Point the provider at Famulor

1. Copy the Famulor webhook URL.
2. Edit the Mattermost outgoing webhook and set that address as the callback URL.
3. Post in the public channel, or start a message with the trigger word. The reply appears in the channel and in History.

## History

Open [History](https://docs.famulor.io/monitoring/history.md) and filter by **Mattermost**. The thread, the assistant reply and any analysis appear there. You can pause the assistant and answer manually.

## API, MCP and command line

The same connection can be created with the public API, the MCP tool `create_messaging_connector`, or the command line. Replace the placeholders with your own values.

```bash theme={null}
famulor create-messaging-connector --platform mattermost --name "Support" \
  --assistant-id ASSISTANT_UUID --base-url https://mattermost.example.com --bot-token BOT_TOKEN --webhook-secret OUTGOING_TOKEN --bot-username famulor-bot
```
